2016 Team

Jan Padgett | Team USA Manager

JanPadgettbiopic-200x200Jan Padgett is the 2016 Team USA Manager. She has been involved in agility for over fifteen years. She and her sheltie Samson saw agility for the first time on TV and thought it looked like fun.

After attempting to find a class they enrolled in obedience and started their competition career there. Eventually they found an agility class, and never went back to obedience.

Jan has trained and competed with shelties and a Border collie mix. She has achieved MACH’s on three dogs, and multiple Nationals for AKC, USDAA and UKI. In addition to competing, Jan has hosted numerous seminars and been President of the Blue Ridge Agility Club. She and her husband Mike help run the UKI US Open in partnership with Greg and Laura Derrett.

Jan left a career as a paralegal several years ago to teach agility and travel with Mike and their dogs. She currently owns seven Shetland sheepdogs, two of which run with Jan. Jan and Mike make their home in Upstate South Carolina, having escaped Indiana winters eight years ago.

Daisy Peel & Frodo | 650 Team

DaisyPeelFrodo-300x300Daisy Peel is known worldwide as a leading instructor and competitor in the sport of dog agility. She has represented the USA internationally over a dozen times, across three continents, with four different dogs.

Read more about her accomplishments with her dogs on her website, www.daisypeel.com.

Frodo is Daisy’s youngest dog, and is three years old. On making the 2016 WAO USA Team with Frodo, Daisy says, “Making the 2016 WAO USA Team with Frodo is an amazing honor. I never dreamed that Frodo and I would gel together as a team in the way that we have; our journey has not been without some fairly large bumps in the road. Every step with Frodo is a reminder to keep an open heart and an open  mind, and I’m truly grateful to be on the team with him as my partner.”

Rachel Carlson & Striker | 650 Team

Striker-2-200x200Rachel Carlson and Striker are blessed and excited to represent the USA at the World Agility Open in England this May. Rachel and Striker are from Knoxville, Tennessee, but currently live in Murfreesboro where Rachel is finishing up her final year in school at Middle Tennessee State University. She is studying graphic/visual design and marketing.

Striker, 4, is known for his freckled nose and long mane. He enjoys chewing up stuffed animals, cuddling and fireworks. Rachel began agility in her backyard when she was 10 years old with her Golden Retriever, Ruby. She has since trained and competed with her Golden Retriever, Piper, and is beginning agility with her 1-year-old Border Collie, Rocky. This will be both Rachel and Striker’s first time on an international team.

Cynthia Hornor & Spice | 525 Team

CynthiaHornerCynthia Hornor is an agility instructor and lives with Spice, and her family, in Ellicott City, Maryland. Cynthia is thrilled to represent the US team in the 525 division.

This is the second time Cynthia & Spice have competed at the WAO. They were also on the US team in 2015.

Spice is a little border collie with incredible jumping ability that has earned her way on several national podiums, including two National Championships.

She is one of the friendliest dogs you will ever meet.  When not tearing up the agility course, Spice loves to herd sheep, hike and, of course, snuggle.

Kate Moureaux & Smart | 525 Team

katemoureaux-200x200Kate Moureaux and Smart (Border Collie) live in Simi Valley, California. Kate is the owner of DrivenDogs Agility, and a full time Agility instructor. She began competing in Agility in 1992, at the age of 6 years old, and has been teaching since 1999.

Smart’s mother (Driven) and grandmother (Quick) helped to give Kate plenty of International experience; she’s competed at three World Championships. Since 2006, Kate has also won seven National Championships, Smart earning two herself. Smart is no stranger to International competitions, having competed in Europe in 2013, and at the World Championships in 2014. As Smart’s breeder, Kate is especially proud of Smart’s accomplishments.

Besides Agility, Kate and Smart have enjoyed competing in Herding, Obedience, Rally, and Conformation. Outside of dog sports, Smart is an expert cuddler, and loves her rubber chicken, Elvis.

Chris Tucci & Bratska | 525 Team

ChrisT2-200x200A natural athlete and (retired) semi-professional hockey player, Chris has been training, competing and professionally handling in agility since 2007.

Chris is the 2014 US Open Games Gold Medalist with his wife’s Border Collie “Flame,” and 2015 US Open Master Series Gold Medalist and 2015 AKC European Open World Team with his Border Collie “Bratska.”

Chris is also a UKI judge and studying to be a USDAA judge. Chris has an extensive coaching background with young athletes in the junior hockey leagues. With his students, Chris has developed a goal oriented teaching style with emphasis on technique training.

Kaitlyn & Karli | 525 Team Alternate

KaitlynDreeseKarliRene-300x300Kaitlyn and Karli have been competing together for 4 years. Karli is a crazy little dog, having a wicked attitude and no teeth. Kaitlyn started competing with Karli as a Junior Handler and was lucky enough to attend 3 junior invitationals with Karli, winning 2 years in a row.  Karli has been on the European Open team twice and made team finals in Germany in 2015. She’s been an incredible agility companion for Kaitlyn, adventuring all over the world.

It hasn’t always been an easy feat with Karli; she’s a dog that needs a lot of love and being a college student, Kaitlyn spends her time studying and traveling home to be with her dogs. Kaitlyn says, “For the situation we are in right now, I’m amazed at everything Karli can do. We don’t get to train every week and I expect a lot out of her when I jump in the car and head out to the different events. She is a phenomenal little dog, and I couldn’t ask for much more.”

Jeannette Hutchison & Rumble | 525 Team Alternate

JeannetteHutchisonRumbleJeannette Hutchison has been involved in agility since 1990 and owns and operates BayBriar Kennel and C Dog Run Agility.  In 2011 Jeannette and her Border Collie, Rumble were on the USA Team for the World Agility Open Championships held in England.

Rumble won both the snooker and gambler classes winning Gold and the title of World Agility Open Games Champion. They have been on additional World Teams: 2012 IFCS World Team USA competing in Texas and earning 4 medals, 2012 WAO in Belgium, 2013 WAO for Spain, 2014 WAO in Italy, 2014 IFCS in the Netherlands, and 2015 WAO in the Netherlands.

Jeannette enjoys sharing her knowledge with anyone interested in learning. Her joy comes from helping dog and handler become a connected team. She understands the power of the mental game and shares her experiences to help fellow competitors excel. She loves agility and knows how much her life’s journey has been enriched by the dog’s and people she has met and the places the sport has taken her.

Tracy Hirsch & Silver | 525 Team

TracyHirschSilver-300x300Tracy Hirsch has been actively involved in the sport of Agility since 2002. She has successfully competed in Agility with a variety of dogs of all shapes, sizes and temperaments. Currently, Tracy shares her passion for agility with her eight dogs…six Border Collies, a 7-pound North Carolina bug chaser and the most adorable Border Staffy you’ll ever meet.

In addition to holding numerous high level titles, Tracy and her canine teammates have earned multiple wins and placements at local, regional, national and international events. Tracy has also had the honor of representing the United States  on the 2013 IFCS CCOE team in Spain and  as part of the 2015 USA WAO team in the Netherlands that brought home a silver medal.

When she’s not running around with a pack of feral dogs or creating courses for her upcoming classes, you can find her shopping for more dog collars, running barefoot or organizing her closet for the eleventy-bajillionth time.

Annie Pyle & Brite | 525 Team

AnnieP2-200x200Annie Pyle has been training dogs for competitive sports for almost 20 years. She is a multiple USDAA Cynosport World Games medalist and multiple AKC Nationals medalist.

Most recently, Annie and Brite were the 2014 USDAA Cynosport Biathalon Silver medalists and 2015 UKI US Open Games Challenge Silver medalists and the 2015 UKI US Open National Champions.

In 2015, Annie also represented the USA at the World Agility Open in Ermelo, Netherlands winning a Bronze medal in the Biathalon Competition. Annie is currently the resident agility instructor at the Clean Run training facility.

Jean Lavalley, Sprint (alternate) & Cheer | 400 Team

Jean-LavalleyJean Lavalley has been competing in agility with her Shelties since 1995. She has been lucky enough to share her life with several Shelties who were able to perform at a very high level in agility. Her husband Joel has been very helpful in making equipment and building courses to help further her agility cause. Her Mom is also kind enough to travel all over the US and Europe to help support her grand-dogs. Unlike many of the members of the team, Jean does not teach agility. She is a veterinarian for her day job, which only leaves enough training time for her own dogs.

This year she is traveling to England with Cheer (16” jumping Sheltie) who has been a member of the WAO team for 4 years now. Cheer has contributed runs to a team gold in 2013 and 2014 and team silver in 2015. She is a very happy dog who lives up to her name daily by spreading Cheer. She is also an amazing working partner no matter if we are training, competing or traveling. Jean’s young dog Sprint is an alternate for the 16” team. Sprint has been an amazingly consistent partner at a very young age. She just turned 3, and this is her second year on the USA team. She’s a little annoyed that her big sister Cheer stole her limelight this year by winning the tie-breaker for the team pentathlon spot when they tied in pentathlon points at the US Open this year.

Judy Reilly & Tempest | 400 Team

judyreillytempest-200x200Judy Reilly lives in Amenia, NY, a small town just south of Albany, along with her husband DJ, son Nick and 5 dogs: 3 border Collies, 1 GSD and, of course, Tempest. Judy has always shared her life with dogs and horses. Judy is employed as a veterinary assistant at Animal/Equine Health practice, a holistic veterinary practice in Litchfield CT. She also teaches classes at Canine Sports Center in Goshen, CT and Paws n Effect in Hamden, CT. Along with being a competitor, Judy is a USDAA and UKI judge. She was one of the official judges for the US Open in 2014.

Tempest is 4 year old BorderJack (half Jack Russell and half Border Collie) born on Superbowl Sunday in 2012. She loves to eat, run, eat, play agility, eat, tug, eat. Did I mention she likes to eat? She has a great on/off switch and loves everyone and everything. She always gives 150% on the agility course and in anything she does. This is our first international event and we are looking forward to it.

Britney Imhof & Bilbo | 300 Team

BritneyImhofBilbo-300x300I’m Britney Imhof and my dog is Bilbo, and we’re crazy excited to be on the WAO team this year!  I gained my love of training animals from working with marine mammals for a few years.  After that, I focused my attention on training dogs, and fortuitously ended up taking my first agility class in spring of 2011.  I was hooked from the start, and had big dreams of competing internationally!  In 2012 I started the search for my next puppy, a Papillion.

Bilbo was the first fat, little fluff ball that the breeder handed to me.  It was love at first sight.  Now, three years later, this kid is a beast!  He is concentrated hurricane in a little, adorable body & I wouldn’t have him any other way.  Bilbo eats, drinks, and sleeps agility along with me.  He is my balls to the wall hobbit and constant companion.  The two of us can’t wait to share some fish and chips together as soon as we get to England.  He & I dream big and look forward to showing the world what we’ve got!

Jennifer Denereaz & Tonic | 650 Team Alternate

jentonic-200x200Jennifer fell in love with training dogs when she took her Labrador Retriever, Maddie, to her first obedience class in 2000.  Shortly thereafter, she found agility, and it quickly became her passion.  While Tonic is her current competition dog (and her first Border Collie), her first 3 dogs (Labrador Retrievers) taught her invaluable lessons about learning to work with different personalities and abilities to maximize partnerships and potential.  All 3 original dogs earned championships in AKC and/or USDAA.

Jennifer believes in creating a strong bond with her dogs and builds on this relationship to unlock their greatest gifts.  She focuses on developing confidence and joy in herself and her dogs.

Having Tonic as my agility partner is a constant rush.  He is passionate about working, loves the wind in his hair, and thinks the world is a party.  He is athletic, friendly, funny, and totally a momma’s boy.  Other than doing agility, he loves pinecones and water hoses.  His most unusual talent is that he can bark with his mouth closed and is often called “The Ventriloquist.”  We are looking forward to our next adventure together!

Off the course, Jennifer is a middle school reading teacher, wife, and mother.  She finds that many of the same relationship and confidence building principles apply with human connections as well.  Teamwork, trust, and respect are key components to success.
